Outdoor Adornment

Since the season is based upon principles of rebirth and renewal, garden decor would nicely complement your blossoming flowers  and add to the festive atmosphere as your kids hunt for eggs.

Emphasis on Garden

What better way is there to focus on revitalization than a freshly decorated garden?

Flowers to Highlight

Lilies

Who hasn't heard of Easter lilies? These have a fantastic shape and will stand out from common garden flowers.

Lavender

Lavender is a soothing shade of purple and having these in your flowerbeds will create an immediate focal point.

Bluebells

Bluebells are melancholic but beautiful. It's like they're mourning the death of winter, but show hope for a wonderful springtime!

Zinnias

Zinnias come in white, pink, red, yellow, and orange, and are tonally warm and inviting. Becauseof this, they will balance out all the cooler-colored flowers you may have.

Chrysanthemums

Their pinkness is cheeky and cute, and long green stems allow them to stand tall. Who doesn't want a bit of fun mixed into the garden?

Items to Consider

 Yard Signs

A bright Easter yard sign  declares your springtime spirit to everyone who passes by.

  • These signs easily stick in your lawn or hang on your fence!
  • Setting the sign up in your yard will create a great photo opportunity for you and your little egg-hunters.

Egg Decorations

Beautify your bushes by adorning them with an assortment of mini eggs .

  • Hang the eggs in the nearest tree or shrub to make your outdoor space more celebratory.
  • You can also hang plastic eggs in different spots on the porch.

Lights

Who says Christmas is the only time of year for outdoor holiday lights? Change that tradition by placing a lighted easter egg  in your window.

  • These lights can also be placed indoors--try above the mantelpiece so your guests can admire your Easter decor.
  • If you choose to put the lighting designs in more than one window, look for lights that feature bunnies or chicks.

 Flags

Even though we enjoy painting eggs and filling our Easter baskets with sweets, we all must acknowledge the religious significance of the holiday. Nothing captures it more than a meaningful Easter flag .

  • Place an emblem flag in your front yard to serve as a subtle reminder of the season's message.
  • The Easter flag can also be set in the garden amongst your daffodils, tulips, and crocuses.

 Fence Decor

These Happy Easter fence signs  are charming little messages for your guests and neighbors to see.

  • You can be even more creative and place them in the foyer as anEaster greeting to all who enter.
  • Some signs will be humorous while others are more straightforward. Use your discretion.

Indoor Decorations

Decorate your home with furnishings that capture the spirit of Easter, like eggs , which are a symbol of fertility and new life. Bunnies  also represent rebirth during this holiday. While the decorations below don't all necessarily feature these images, they still add a springy touch to your home that friends and family members will certainly enjoy.

Room Decor

Bouquets

Bouquets liven up living rooms and dining rooms, work brilliantly as centerpieces, and they're easy to create. You can either cut flowers fresh from your own garden or buy them in stores. If you have a centerpiece with tiered plates, you can arrange several small bouquets around them.

Garlands

Garland is not only for Christmas! You can make paper bunnies or use eggs and grasses as garland. Hang them on the wall or down from the ceiling and banisters. Get creative with you placement.

Baskets

It should be obvious that Easter baskets can be used for decor. Don't get stuck in the idea that they're only for hiding the kids' treats--they can be made to look fancier and more traditional. For instance, you can make themed baskets with crafted animals from paper and eggs.

Candles

Spring cleaning can drudge up some nasty dust (and probably some unseemly smells), and by placing scented candles around the house, you'll freshen everything up. Look for flower and river scents in particular.

Placemats

If you plan on serving an Easter brunch or dinner, you should consider dolling up your table. You'll of course want to start with an appropriate tablecloth, but Easter-specific placemats are the next step.

Wreaths

Once again, pull out some magic tricks from the Santa hat. Wreaths are actually popular for several holidays (e.g. Halloween and Thanksgiving).

Easter Egg Trees

If eggs could grow on trees... you can always pretend. Hang eggs like ornaments from the branches of a real or plastic tree. You could also place eggs in scattered nests in a shrub for a similar effect.

Decorative Bird Nests

Bird's nests can make beautiful centerpieces on coffee tables. Put a papier mache bird in it alongside some decorated eggs.

Topiaries

Topiaries are pleasant additions to a room you use for entertaining guests. They should get adequate sunlight, so it's best to position them near a window. They're also easy to place alongside fireplaces and sofas.

Placecards

Do you know your Aunt Mindy on your Mom's side can't stand Uncle Bob on your Dad's? If so, you will probably want assigned seating at your Easter celebrations! You can buy or make placecards with your guests' names so everyone will be seated comfortably.

Items to Consider

Candy Dishes

It's Easter for goodness sake! You need to display candy just as much as you do on Halloween. Leave candy trays on coffee tables.

  • You can put out a generic dish, or make it seasonal and silly with bunnies, baby chicks, and egg-shaped pottery.
  • Be sure to leave an assortment of candies.

Table Covers

Table covers are just as important indoors as outdoors!

  • The easiest covers to clean up are ones made of paper or plastic.
  • Look for bright colors. Pink, purple, green, and yellow are cheery.
  • Make sure they match the rest of the dining room decor.

Candle Holders

If you intend to use candles then it only makes sense to buy Easter-themed holders for them.

  • A lot of holders are ceramic ceramic. Don't place them near table edges because they'll fall and break (or worse, result in a house fire).
  • Make sure you buy candles that fit the holders.

Wallpaper Borders

Wall borders can spice up any room!

  • Floral patterns are neutral enough to use for more than just Easter.
  • Again, match the colors you choose with the decor of the room.
  • They're best placed in kitchens.

Table Centerpieces

The table is incomplete without tabletop decor.

  • Use colorful centerpieces so your guests have something to admire.
  • Flowers, egg baskets, and plush bunnies are just a few ideas.

Ornaments

You really can't have enough things that wish everyone a happy Easter.

  • Cutesy decorations are good for kids.
  • Floral patterns are traditional.
  • You can also find many religious ornaments to hang on the walls.

Banners

Banners, like garlands and wall borders, are an easy way to set up the room.

  • Choose banners with messages like "Happy Easter."
  • General springtime banners can obviously be left up after Easter passes (but getting them down can be a pain if you're not tall).

Doormats

Welcome your guests with a festive doormat!

  • Everyone loves feeling like a welcome guest. Mats extend a subtle but pleasing gesture.
  • You can be as goofy or as sincere as you want.
  • These are helpful in keeping mud and shoe prints off of your carpets. April showers, as they say.

Decorative Eggs

The Easter Bunny can't do all the work himself--lend a helping hand.

  • Easter eggs can be as plain or as elegant as you like.
  • There are kits you can buy to help decorate them.
  • You can use them with practically any other decor.

Wall Plaques

Like doormats and signs, wall plaques welcome your guests into your home.

  • The cheerier the better. Light and fun will brighten everybody's mood.
  • Thoughtful prayers and poems are much more meditative, but they're just as pleasant.
