William Shakespeare was an English Playwright often regarded as the most prominent writer in the English language. He is most wellpoems. Shakespeare's influence (or "genius" as many claim) can be seen both within and outside the world of Literature. He made major alterations to previous traditions of plot, characterization, genre, and language. He morphed the romance, deepened the hero, refined the soliloquy, and invented countless words in the English language. He even created his own form of sonnet (three stanzas of four lines in alternating rhyme, ending in a couplet), now known as the "Shakespearean" sonnet. Prominent writers such as Charles Dickens, Herman Melville, William Faulkner, and Thomas Hardy were heavily influenced by Shakespeare.
The Bard cannot be separated from pop culture, either.
