Berries are a wonderfood in that they provide the consumer with a huge amount of vitamins while containing very few calories. They're also a great way to get your sweet tooth fix without the refined junk and processed foods that pack on the pounds. You'll hear many dietitians recommend desserts that are berry heavy because of this very reason. Berries can aid in smooth digestion and, as people get more culinary-creative, they can be added to nearly every meal. There are dried berries, frozen berries, berry spreads, and berry health bars that all prove this point. Though nothing's as good as the raw berry.
Organic, Frozen and Dried Berries
Berries are one of those food groups that is much more ideal if you can buy them organic. Berries that are exposed to pesticides allow the harmful stuff to leach in through their soft outer membrane, which means washing your fruit doesn't really help. This is true if you're going to buy the fruit frozen, as well. Dried fruits concentrate the sugars, which means you'll probably consume a lot more of them than you would consume cherries or blueberries in their normal watercounting, be sure you know how much sugar or calories come in a serving size of just a handful of dried fruit.
