It can be hard to admit, but a smooth, polished formal look requires work even for men, down to the little details. You could wear an amazing suit and still look foolish without the right accessories. Suspenders and belts don't just keep your pants in place, they add just the right finishing touch that adds up to a mature, masculine look anyone can appreciate.
Belts
Belts are standard men's wear. They work best with square bodies or those with waists. A width of one to one and one eighth inches is best for most situations; too thick and you're too casual, too thin and you look a bit mod. Buckles should be kept simple for formal occasions, though your inner rebel is free to experiment so long as you're not in the wedding party. Then you obey the bride. Leather is the most acceptable belt material for a formal occasion, in either black or brown.
Suspenders
A bit more archaic, or classic depending on your perspective, suspenders are another men's formal wear option. Suspenders are a bit less straight forward than belts. For a start, a few more materials are considered acceptable in a formal situation, from leather to elastic to satin suspenders. You also have a few choices in how they attach to your pants. Provided your pants have button hole, you can wear button hole suspenders. Otherwise it's cliplike. And any little bit of comfort you can get from formal pants should be guarded jealously.
