The Watson Twins

By User:AllieCashel @timeAndDate(1279053908) When we were little, everyone used to tell my sister and I that we that we sounded good singing together because our vocal chords were so similar. Now in reality, we didn't sound very good together at all (most 5 and 3 year olds don't have stellar voices) but there seems to be some truth to what everyone told us. Just look at The Watson Twins: two identical twin sisters (Chandra and Leigh Watson), with identical sets of vocal chords, who are making a career singing in harmonies so tight it sounds like only one person is singing. They started writing their own music after they both graduated from college, and together with three other contributors, Aram Arslanian, Russ Pollard and Jenny Lewis, have released three full albums and been featured on two others since their start. Though they have a unique sound that is hard to squeeze into one genre, most of their music seems to be heavily influenced by the alternative country and indie rock genres. Their specialties though, are their beautiful voices and gift for harmony, a gift that doesn't seem to come around too much anymore.

The Watson Twins Discography

'''''Rabbit Fur Coat''''' (2005) - Released in 2006, this is technically Jenny Lewis' (of Rilo Kiley) solo recording but marks the first time The Watson Twins were featured on a record company release. Together with Lewis, the twins collaborated to write many of the singles on this soulful album and also sang backup in many of the songs. ''Rabbit Fur Coat'' was fairly well received by the public and the critics, all of whom pointed to the touching harmonies of Chandra and Leigh. Although this isn't considered to be their breakout, this feature was an important step towards the future career of these sisters.  '''''Southern Manners''''' (2006) tuned voices) showcases the rare vocal talent these girls possess. It sort of sounds like a throwback to the best of the 70s with the modern, youthful flare of the 21st century. Thankfully, this CD secured their place in the industry, a place that would has become more and more respected over the last few years. '''''Cinnamon Girl The twins covered the Neil Young song "Powderfinger" on this American Laundromat Records charity collection. ''Cinnamon Girl'' was created to raise money for breast cancer research and, although the whole thing was quite successful, The Watson Twin's cover stuck out as one of the best of the group of songs. Their success with this cover set them up perfectly for their next full length EP, released only a few months later. '''''Fire Songs''''' (2008) rock indie genre. Regardless of which sister is singing lead (it's pretty balanced throughout the album by the way) each song rings with an honesty that hasn't been seen for a long time. This CD is a real gem, a stunning example of the variety of music these sisters are capable of creating and performing.  '''''Talking to You, Talking to Me''''' (2010) - Released in February of this year, this is undoubtedly their most experimental, grove heavy and ambitious collection of songs to date. They maintain their, now signature, harmonizing techniques but add new influences to their music giving a nod to their Kentucky roots and country background. So far, it has been very well received by both fans and critics alike and again brilliantly captures the essence of The Waston Twins extraordinary talent. Fans are waiting in anticipation for another album from these brilliant sisters.
