Cat Power is Chan Marshall, a Southern songstress turned New Yorker by 1992.
After dropping out of high school, Ms. Marshall began performing under the stage name of indie artist.
Her years of success began in 2007, after serious, personal hardships which drove her to quit live performing. But by 2007, Marshall was ready to partner with accompanying band The Dirty Delta Blues Band which consisted of Judah Bauer on drums. Cat Power began winning awards and prizes, such as the Shortlist Music Prize. She was nominated Best Internationale Female Solo Artist for the Brit Awards. In 2008, she and The Dirty Delta Blues Band released "Jukebox," a compilation of cover songs.
Now at age 38, Cat Power is playing at several music festivals around the United States, including Outside Lands in San Francisco, CA and is said to be recording another album.
