Petite clothing is designed to fit women 5'4" and shorter.  The goal for most petite ladies is to appear tall (or, frankly, just to be seen in a crowd!).  The key is dress with confidence.  Monochromatic looks are great for elongating the body.

The Budget Fashionista offers the following advice for Petite Shoppers

• Embrace high heels. Wearing heels of two inches or more will give you extra height and will straighten your posture thus giving you the appearance of being taller.
• Wear low rise pants. Low rise pants can elongate the torso thus giving the illusion of being taller.
• Find a great tailor to alter your clothing to your proportions. Most pants are not made with short ladies in mind (especially curvy short ladies!) It may be more helpful to but pants for the fit in hips and seat. Remember, length is something that is easily fixed.
• Avoid unstructured clothing, cropped pieces, and oversized accessories.
