Light Boxes
Light boxes, also called SAD lamps, are designed to treat sleep disorders, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), jet lag, and those who don't get natural sunlight, such as people employed at night. Since light boxes are usually part of a treatment program, your doctor can instruct you on the specifics of what you need, and some insurance policies will cover the purchase.
Specifications of an Effective Light Box- 10,000 lux (intensity of light and proximity for light to affect you)
- Bandwidth of spectrum (recommended 446-474)
- Under eight pounds, so you can take it with you where ever you go
Light boxes are not to be confused with full-spectrum light, sun lamps, or tanning beds. The light technology is different and the health benefits of tanning devices are different, usually for skin treatment for such problems as acne or psoriasis.
Visit Apollo Health for more information on SAD and light boxes.
