Sex Lubricants

There are a wide variety of sex lubes available on the market. Toss out that jar of vaseline and have fun!

Why lube? Miko's has the answer.

Always remember that, whichever lube you prefer, for anal sex you should use a thick, gel-like lube. (For everything else it is up to you!)

Water Based

Water-based Lubes

  • Water-based lubes are safe to use with any toy and in any opening.
  • Water-based lube is the most common kind of lube.
  • Many lubes also contain glycerine, which can promote yeast infections. Look for lube that doesn't contain any kind of sugar.
  • Water-based lubes are edible, and often come in flavors or varieties meant specifically for oral sex. (See below.)
  • Look for: Slippery Stuff Maximus Liquid Silk

Silicone Based

Silicone-based Lubes

  • Silicone-based lubes are safe for vaginal and anal sex, but cannot be used with silicone toys.
  • Silicone is hypoallergenic and will not dry out the way water-based lubes do.
  • Great in the water - won't disolve!
  • Silicone is very slippery - look for a bottle with a good gripping surface!
  • Silicone lubes are not edible. Don't eat them!
  • Silicone may be a little more expensive, but since it doesn't dry out, you need less of it to acheive a slippery surface.
  • Look for: Eros BodyFluid

Oil Based

Oil-based Lubes

  • A few lubes are available that are intended for men that are oil based.
  • These lubes are intended for masturbation only.
  • Anything coated with an oil-based lube (including vaseline and baby oil!) should NEVER be inserted in the vagina or anus.
  • Oil based lubes will destroy condoms!
  • Look for:

Flavored Lubes

Flavored Lubes

  • Flavored lubes are great for adding a little variety to oral sex.
  • There are lots of flavors - fruity, spicy, and desserty.
  • Generally water-based.
    • There are also flavored massage oils - but these should never be used for sex as they can destroy a condom.
  • It's helpful if you can sample before you commit to a bottle.
  • If you can't sample, consider getting a variety pack with several differet sachets of lube (like the one pictured).

Warming Oils

Warming Oils

  • Mainly used for massage.
  • Add a little erotic spice to your evening (or morning, or afternoon) with a sexy massage.
  • Some warming oils are also flavored for a multi-sensory experience.

Stimulating/Numbing Products

Stimulating  and Numbing Lubes

  • Stimulating lubes allegedly increase sensation and make sex more pleasurable.
    • Especially intended for women.
  • Numbing lubes contain a mild analgesic to prolong sex.
    • Especially intended for people who feel they are too fast in bed.
  • Use caution and be aware of any allergic reactions or uncomfortable sensations.

Spermicide?

Spermicidal Lubes

  • Some lubes (usually found on condoms) contain nonoxynol-9, a spermicide.
  • While a useful contraceptive, it can be very irritating to the inside of the vagina, and many women are sensitive or allergic to it.
  • It's worth a try, but proceed with caution.
  • Don't eat it, either.
