Shopping Search Engine Hires Former President of DoubleClick Media
New COO Will Lead ShopWiki's Global Expansion
NEW YORK, NY — September 19, 2006 — ShopWiki (www.shopwiki.com), the shopping search engine, has hired Barry Salzman, former President of DoubleClick Global Media, as the company’s first Chief Operating Officer. Salzman will expand ShopWiki's infrastructure and scale the company internationally. ShopWiki, which launched in the United States in April, plans to launch in an additional five countries by the end of this year.
Salzman brings more than 20 years of leadership and business experience, including five years as President of DoubleClick's international operations.
"I'm thrilled to be working with Barry again," said Kevin P. Ryan, ShopWiki CEO. "As a proven global manager with vast experience, he is the perfect executive to lead ShopWiki into the international marketplace."
Salzman served at DoubleClick from 1997 to 2002, first as President of DoubleClick International, then as President of DoubleClick Global Media. He developed and implemented the company’s international start-up strategy, launching both media and technology enterprises outside of the United States. With a team of more than 900 employees across 24 countries (including the United States), he grew revenues to upwards of $400 million.
“ShopWiki attracted me first and foremost because it is a great idea with enormous potential, both domestically and abroad," said Salzman. "The ShopWiki team is shaking up the online shopping space by adhering to an age-old concept: put the consumer first. I look forward to helping grow ShopWiki into the shopping search site where shoppers worldwide go to start their online shopping experience."
Salzman's prior work experience also included positions with AEA Investors, Inc., McKinsey & Company and Salomon Brothers, Inc.
Salzman spent the last two years in Australia, pursuing his passion for photography on a full-time basis. His work has appeared in publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue Entertaining + Travel, Harper's Bazaar, Ad News, Australian Geographic and The Sydney Morning Herald.
Salzman received a Bachelor of Business Science with a Distinction in Marketing from the University of Cape Town and an M.B.A from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
