Women's Fall Style Guide

Changing leaves, football games, and crisp autumn days are close at hand.  By now you may have tackled your Back-to-School shopping for the kids, and are ready to take on your own wardrobe.  According to New York Metro there are ten key items for fall 2006.  Did you know cocoon jackets were going to be big this fall? If you're out of the loop on this and other trends, read up on our guide to fall.  We've made it easy for you to find these items and decide if they are right for your wardrobe.

Ten Must Haves for Fall 2006

Leggings 

  • Skinny  legs are in for Fall denim try Miss Sixty  or Acne jeans
  • If you're brave wear the slimmest leg possible with blazers and sweaters.
  • If you want to try the look, but aren't completely sold try layering leggings  under a skirt or dress.

Spacious Sweaters

Plaid

Cat Prints

  • New York Metro loved the lippi cat print. PETA members may be against this trend even if the pelts are faux.
  • Consider buying a coat at a discount store as this trend may not last long.

Bold Colors for Evening

  • Roberto Cavalli  is the master of sexy color.
  • Keep in mind that a colorful dress will be quite memorable and may not be the best bet for someone with lots of parties to attend and a limited budget.

Velvet 

  • Go Girl ezine says velvet has replaced corduroy for fall.
  • Velvet blazers  worn withs skinny jeans are a great combinations.
  • Look for bargains at Old Navy and Anthropologie.

Sheer Black

  • Nordstrom's best sellers include a sheer Rebecca Taylor shirtdress  and a tunic from BCBG
  • Invest in a great black bra to make this look work for you.

Gray Suit

  • Vicious style says grey is the new blue. Designers supporting this trend include: Marni, and Lauren.
  • For a great suit that will last for many seasons check out Max Mara  or Armani

Red

Fur Trim

  • CNN cited Carolina Herrera as a standout when it comes to fur.
  • Check out designs by Derek Lam  and Pucci.

A few more trends:

  • Black & White prints.
  • Cocoon shapes (further exaggeration of the bubble shape skirt from spring and summer, but now seen on dresses and outerwear).
