Wines taste better with aeration. Aeration is the process of exposing wine to oxygen which enhances the flavor. Then the complexities of wine will show up along with a smooth taste.
Simple Aeration Tips
* Even the finest of
red wines will be tight on opening and will require some aeration before savoring its contents. Aeration doesn’t stop with leaving the wine bottle to sit for sometime after opening.
* A swish or a swirl of the wine glass will provide the necessary aeration to some wines.
* A strong young red wine like your
Cabernet Sauvignon with high tannin levels would require longer aeration timing than a 1945 wine.
* A white wine like
Chardonnay requires very less or no aeration and can be consumed directly.
* It is important to note that old stored wines sometimes lose flavor on aeration.
* The time duration for aerating depends on wines. Young tannic red wines take half an hour to aerate. Old reds can be consumed directly and aerate only when required. Light reds and heavier
white wines need at least fifteen minutes of aeration.
