Valentine's Day Gifts for Kids

Do you have a special kid in your life who deserves a token of love on Valentine's Day? My mom, to this day, sends me a package with a chocolate , a card , and ugly heart-covered socks  to make me smile on February 14th. From the decorations and candy to handing out valentines  to their classmates, Valentine's Day is no different from any other holiday that kids look forward to. Buying a gift for a child for Valentine's Day is easy and fun. Why don't you give the little loves in your life a token of your affection on this day? Kids will always remember if you choo-choo-choose them as your Valentine.

Choosing a Gift

Since Valentine's is more of a candy  and cards holiday, gifts tend to be overlooked, especially for kids. This leads to a lot of last minute drug store stuffed animals finding their way into homes. But really, choosing a suitable gift for your child or niece or nephew isn't a big deal. You don't have to go all out--its not as if this is Christmas or their birthday, and kids generally will enjoy any extra gifts they can get. A few suggestions to help you choose a gift:

Red

You can't go wrong with red on Valentine's day, whether it's t-shirts ,stuffed animals , or candy . Plus, boys and tom boys are less likely to complain than if you gave them something pink or white , Valentine's other official colors.

Hobbies Help

Give your child a taste of something they love. Maybe they like supporting endangered animals , playing an instrument  or playing a sport like soccer. Choose a small token that will help them enjoy their hobby, like it's a poster  or a musical note  key chain.

Get Crafty

Some times the best gift for a kid is a little time. Give them something you can spend time together working on, like a friendship bracelet kit or a model airplane  set. Or you could enjoy making Valentine's cards  together.

Help Them Out

Children also enjoy giving gifts almost as much as they like receiving them.  This goes double for older kids. Help you child find something they want to give to their classmates , like heart shaped cupcakes . Or help older kids get their little crush something sweet .

You could also go with an activity that you could do together, like a trip to the zoo or the museum or maybe their favorite skate park. Surprise them with the usual candy but add in something special. An envelope  with a ticket or a pamphlet on the location in lieu of a card is a nice touch, especially if the trip is to take place later, on a coming weekend. Take a look at some more specific suggestions to see what would make your child smile this Valentine's Day.

Traditional Gifts For All Kids

Stuffed Animals

Every child has a favorite plush toy that holds lots of sentimental value. Even if this isn't that toy, they'll love having a new friend. Teddy bears are especially cute.

Candies and Chocolate

You probably think they don't need anymore sugar but Valentine's Day is like Halloween all over again, with less candy corn and more chalky candy hearts.

Valentine's Day Card Kit

Yes, you can buy a premade kit at the supermarket but it's so much cuter to get a card full of misspelled words and lumpy glitter.

Stickers

So they can decorate their lunchbox, binder, or locker, put on them a card, or share them with friends.

Heart Charm

Attach the keyring to their backpack or jacket zipper pull so they'll always have it close by.

For Girls

Pajamas

A great gift for girls of all ages. Get footed PJs for little ones or some warm fleece pajama bottoms  for cold winter nights.

Disney Princess Watch

What girl doesn't fancy themselves a Disney princess? Help them learn to tell time with an analog watch decorated with Ariel, Belle and the rest of the girls.

Princess Costume

It doesn't get any better than glittery wings and a metallic dress that floats when you walk. Except maybe a tiara .

Flip Flops

Great for around the house and in the summertime (even if it's still snowing outside, a girl can dream!)

Musical Jewelry Box

Boy's Shirt

Yes he'll probably just get mud and dirt all over it but that's why they invented laundry detergent.
