Valentine's Decorations

Love is in the air and what better way to show it than to decorate your home with the latest Valentine's Day decorations ? Whether you're just looking to add a little red to the room or you're planning on covering every visible surface with paper cupids , you can find a way to decorate for the most romantic day of the year (after Presidents' Day). Yes, it can be a bit cheesy, but hey, romance has that effect on a lot of people. Even those without a valentine can still bask in the day's sentiment of love (see Valentine's Day for Singles) by furnishing their home with a few little reminders of the season.

Doorway

For the romantics, a heart border  is a nice prelude to a candlelit dinner inside.

  • Borders  can also be hung along the sides of your front door or bedroom door.
  • Try placing it around the edges of a tablecloth ; adjusting non-holiday decorations is cheaper than buying new ones.
  • Or you can line the walls of your dining room or living room to add more romance to the room.

Polka-dotted hearts arranged in a heart-shape make a charming Valentine wreath .

  • An easy way to decorate a classroom  or office for the holiday.
  • The wreath could also be placed on a bulletin board or on your Valentine's wall.
  • Another decoration you can make yourself .
  • Just be sure to hang it  in a place where everyone can admire its cute message.

This heartwarming door curtain  sets the mood for the holiday of love.

  • Beaded curtains  are a lovely way to surprise your sweetheart at the start of an intimate evening.
  • You can also hang a temporary red curtain  outside the kitchen door, if only to disguise the view of the kitchen sink with something a bit more romantic.

Express sentiments of the season by placing heart garland  around the border of the front door.

  • Garland  is flexible enough for you to make your own creations; try shaping the garland into big hearts and placing them on the front door.
  • You can also decorate your tabletop with a garland  meandering around the snacks and drinks.

Indoor Decorations

Love really is in the air with these swirly heart ceiling decorations  dangling.

  • Streamers  can be hung in the center of the --they can even serve as Valentine's mistletoe!
  • You can also hang them  from the corners of the table where refreshments are served.

Coming in from the cold is even more rewarding with little reminders of the occasion, like this heart-covered doormat .

  • Place the mat at the front of the door; Valentine's weather is often slushy.
  • It can also be spread on the bathroom floor; can't let those fancy soaps  be the only bathroom decoration, right?

Make your decorations playful by scattering heart shaped balloons  around the house.

Candles make for the most romantic lighting, be it in the bedroom, at the table or around the living room.

  • There is nothing like a sweetly scented candle  to set a sensual mood in the bedroom.
  • Dim the lights and light some taper candles  to set a romantic mood for dinner for two.
  • Be sure to keep all those sexy candles away from the paper decorations !

Don't forget the flowers ! This decoration is also part-gift, so it's really important to spend the money on quality.

  • Roses  are traditional but expensive; order in advance or pay through the nose!
  • Your sweetie's favorite flowers make for a thoughtful gift, or you can use the language of flowers  to send them a message of love.

Here, There, Everywhere

Hearts can hidden all over the room, with little charms ,ornaments  and even picture frames  taking over for a day.

Even your pillows  can be thrown into the holiday spirit.

  • Place a couple of these pillows  on the couch and chair to make your guests more cozy; toss a couple in the bedroom and leave the rest to your imagination!
  • Picture aside, avoid stuffed animals. Bears  are cute, but their glassy little eyes have a way of killing the mood.

Spread holiday cheer around your home furnishings with heart doilies  on your chairs and sofas.

  • The doilies  can be circulated on the coffee table and serve as little coasters.
  • Use different colors  and sizes to add a little variation.

Give the table a little touch of romance with hand crafted glass plates  and bowls shaped like hearts.

Rose petals  are a bit obvious, but always appreciated. Sprinkle them on table before a romantic meal, or use them to make a pathway to the bedroom.

  • Buy a few extra roses  when you order a bouquet; the light scent that remains is worth the effort.
  • Silk petals  are reusable and much less expensive.
