Magic is a fantasy game, where the cards represent fantasy creatures and magic spells.
Gameplay
Unlike
Poker, all of the cards used in the trading card game are not packaged together as a whole. You start off with a basic set of cards, and add to this deck as you go along. This allows for players to customize their playing decks from the cards you have collected or traded with another player. In these games, the cards are ranked as common, uncommon, or rare. In some games, there are also ultra, super, or mega rare cards. They are ranked based on the availability of the card and likeliness to obtain that specific card. The level of rarity indicates the card's power in the actual game, therefore, the rare the card, the more powerful it is in the game.
Most games are sold in sealed packages as follows:

Starter sets include instructions and enough cards for two players to begin game play right away.

Tournament/Starter decks include around 40 cards, enough for one player. The cards are random, but enough of each card to start game play.

Theme decks are selections of cards that have a general theme, but work well when played together.

Booster packs usually contain 8 to 15 random cards that you can add to your existing deck.
