Kid's Toys
Choosing the Right Toy for Middle Schoolers
Going through junior high school (a.k.a. middle school) can be a troubling and awkward period for some kids. Usually it is that in-between period of adolescence that has earned kids between the ages 10 and 13 the title "Tweens." It's a time when image starts to become important so you'll get a lot of grief over what's cool and what's not. That makes choosing a toy somewhat difficult, especially if you don't know a child well. However, at the same time, because they are older, kids in this age group can start to receive more adult-like gifts like their first cameras, MP3 players, video game consoles, and computers. Let's not forget the fact that you can usually ask them what they want and they'll tell you.
Nonetheless, with all the electronic toys to choose from, wouldn't it be simpler to choose something else that they would really enjoy? Like a new bike or pair of skis? Maybe a little artiste would melt over receiving a fancy easel and painting supplies? And perhaps the fashionista would love to get her hands on a cool new outfit? It's essentially up to you to be discriminate and hone in on the child's tastes at this stage. It's almost like choosing a gift for an adult -- almost.
If you really don't know the child well ask the parents or siblings for ideas. Still stuck? Here are some quick picks to start and many more ideas below.
