Today is one of those days where you can finally get things done around the house. Your brother is off exploring his new mansion (which you think may be haunted), the love of your life is actually not kidnapped for once, and that giant half dinosaur, half turtle that has made you his sworn enemy is taking a break from fire breathing and evil plotting. There's no kart races or tennis matches today to clog up your schedule. You've got your overalls on, a brand new red cap, and you're ready to finally get to work doing what you were meant to do... plumbing.
Basic Tools
* Wrenches: For the basics, you'll need a pipe wrench and a chain wrench. The pipe wrench is used to grip pipes during work, and chain wrenches can twist pipes in either direction, acting like a ratchet.
* Pipe Vise: If you need to cut, thread, or ream a pipe, you are going to need a vise to hold it in place. This might also be helpful in keeping the pipe still while jumping through to the underworld level.
* Pipe Cutters: If you want a truly clean cut, pipe cutters are what you are going to need to get your piping the right length. Hacksaws can also be used but will not cut as clean and smoothly.
* Teflon Tape: Great for patching up small leaks in piping.
If You're Working on the Sink
So the sink in your bathroom or kitchen needs a little bit of work. Maybe things aren't draining like they should, maybe goombas are popping out of it. Here's what you may need:
* Sink Auger: This little tool will help you break up clogs in your sink.
* Cup Plunger: These are the plungers we think of first, with a rubber cup shape on the end. These are specifically for clogs in sinks, tubs and showers.
* Faucet Valve Seat Wrench: Get one of these to easily remove the faucet valves so they can be replaced in case their is a leak coming from that area.
If You're Working on the Toilet
The toilet can be a not so pleasant thing to work on, but someone's gotta do it!
* Flange Plunger: A flange plunger are those longer plungers that are used specifically for clearing out the toilet.
* Toilet Auger: Designed to also manually help remove clogs in toilets.
* Flush Lever: This is the piece inside the tank that lifts the flapper valve, which lets water rush down and flush your toilet. It gets the most abuse and often needs replacement.
* Flapper Valve: The valve that covers the hole in your tank is usually made of plastic, so it gets brittle and hard and will keep your toilet pressure from working right.
