Safety Clothing

Safety clothing saves lives. Reflective clothing keeps road crews safe from oncoming traffic, hard hats can keep the head safe from falling objects, fire-retardant clothing can keep first responders safe in fire situations, and insulated gloves will keep you safe from electrical shock. As such, they're one of the most important items of professional equipment you can have. Unfortunately, they can often be cumbersome, unwieldy, uncomfortable, and expensive. Fortunately, there are plenty of options for workers who want to upgrade their equipment at a reduced cost.  Work hard and stay safe.

Purchasing the Correct Clothing

Before buying safety equipment, be sure that you know what you need to buy. Every job site has specific rules and you need to be sure you're not buying anything that violates your employer's standards.  Fire and electrical equipment in particular needs to clear industry safety standards, so you need to be sure that the lowfitting clothing around equipment with moving parts. That's a sure way to get on a painful disability stretch. Having said that, here are some basic suggestions for safety equipment. * Reflective clothing is really common with both road crews and cyclists and are designed to make the wearer visible to drivers. The most common types are reflective vests, but there are full reflective shirts, arm bands, leg straps, and other accouterments. Newer, fancier vests include LED lights and special panels for different visibility conditions. Finally, there are special vests for police officers that are tinted blue and have POLICE written prominently on the chest. * Fire resistant clothing is often worn by firefighters or metal industry workers and keeps a worker's skin from being burned. They are often full outfits, with heavy coats, trousers, knee pads, gloves, and face/head protection. The National Fire Protection Association sets the industry standard for fire safety, but many items available on the market do not meet those standards. In addition, fire resistant clothing needs to be cleaned carefully so they don't lose their protection. * General industrial safety equipment includes a broad array of clothing. For example: ** Eye and face protection from material shards, bright lights, and harmful chemicals. ** Impact-resistant hard hats. ** Knee and shin pads for crawling around debris-strewn areas. ** Heat resistant, steel toed boots. ** Hearing protection for working near loud machinery. ** Gloves for handing dangerous materials. * If you're big into collecting your own honey, you're going to need one of those fancy beekeeper suits. Alternately, if you're trying to survive an outbreak of the deadly Motaba virus, you can score one of those MOPP suits. Finally, if you manage to find yourself in space, best get yourself a space suit. Barring that, stick a fishbowl over your head and you'll be good to go.
