Star Trek: Enterprise
''Star Trek Enterprise'': the final final frontier. Sadly, these are the last voyages of the Enterprise. Well technically, it's the first voyages of the starship since this series is a prequel to the original ''Star Trek'' series. We follow the adventures of the very first Warp 5 starship, traveling the galaxies long before the United Federation of Planets was even formed. Sadly, the show only lasted four seasons and was canceled due to low ratings. The show ran from 2001-2005 and was the first Star Trek series broadcast in HDTV.
Warp Speed
Like the other series, the show depicts the exploration of space and other cultures. However, since this is a prequel, the series shows the origins of how ideas and concepts came into being. Many Trekkies take for granted the Star Trek canon and therefore, the goal of ''Enterprise'' was to depict how the greatest science fiction show began. The first two seasons dealt mainly with these early explorations and the Temporal Cold Waran entity which manipulates time to change past events. We are also introduced to the Vulcans, who have taken an interest in humans. They begin to mentor humans but believe we are too emotional and too irrational. (I think they're just jealous of our rounded ears and good sense of humor.)
Low ratings forced the writers to go in a new direction for the third season. We follow a giant story arc about another species who go back in time to destroy Earth since a later Enterprise ship will defeat them in the future. It had a Terminator movie feel to it. The story proved to be interesting enough for a renewal for season four. However, the writers decided to return to their original idea of explaining the shows origins. The last season was able to fill in all those gaps that Trekkies may have wondered about in the other series. Despite their efforts, the Friday night death spot killed them.
Intergalactic Merchandise
Don't cry little Trekkies. You can still embrace your love for the show with the DVDS and the official soundtrack for the show. If that doesn't console you, there are plenty of novels based on the episodes, along with new stories. Because the show was canceled, writers were free to do what they wished with their books which led to a relaunch of novels years after the series ended. You can also stock up on some apparel and of course, action figures and other collectible items.
