Soccer Goals

Practicing and playing soccer is impossible to do without one integral piece of equipment - the goal Though buying one may seem like a simple task, there are a handful of options to consider when sorting through different goals. Whether it's the material, size, or the intended use of the user, a potential buyer should consider his/her situation before making a purchase.

Metal or Plastic?

Metal Goals :

  • Game goals and permanent goals are usually made of aluminum.
  • These goals are extremely heavy, weighing upwards of 175 pounds.
  • Not intended to be constantly moved and transported.
  • It is absolutely necessary to anchor these to prevent from falling onto players/spectators.

Plastic Goals :

  • Lightweight and durable. Ideal for backyard and practice use.
  • It's important to anchor these into the ground, but can be easily moved.
  • Variety of sizes.
  • Some include bounce back nets, which are great for solo practice sessions.

Size matters

The issue of goal sizes is contingent on the players who will be using it. For youth leagues, Dick's Sporting Goods reccomends that you buy one full size set and two smaller goals, which will prevent any scheduling and administrative mishaps. Buying any more than the suggested amount may lead to said problems.

Standard goals  are 8 to 8 1/2-feet high and 24-feet wide. These should be used by players 12+ years old.

U9 to u11  goals should be 6 1/2-feet high by 18 1/2 to 21-feet wide. The field should be 50-yards wide and 70-yards long.

U7 to u8  goals should be used by 6 to 7 year old players. This net is 6 1/2-feet high and 12 to 18-feet wide.

U6 goals  should be used by the youngest players. These are 4- 4 1/2-feet high and 6 to 9-feet wide.
