San Francisco 49ers Merchandise

Hailing as one of three professional football teams from California, the San Francisco 49ers are certainly the most popular out of the Californian teams (the other two are Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers) and possibly one of the most prominent teams in the NFL (along with other prolific teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Green Bay Packers). The 49ers are widely known as the team to beat in the 80's and early 90's, as they accumulated five Super Bowl championships in the span of a 13 year winning streak. San Francisco was also home to several of the most renowned players in professional football: Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, and Steve Young. All in all, the 49ers are one of those professional teams with a legendary history of victories, attracting continuous national attention as well as a large group of loyal followers. The more recent years have not been kind to the 49ers, and they've posted losing seasons since 2002. However, this has not deterred faithful San Francisco fans, who continue to hope for another dominant streak of wins. For those resolute 49ers fans who remain hopeful, keep those spirits up with a little help from your fellow fans and from the fun San Francisco paraphernalia that is only just a click away. Take a look at some of this season's hottest paraphernalia that will bring cheer to the most pessimistic of fans.

Past and Present Team

The 49ers had the ultimately dominant team, with aforementioned superstars such as Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Steve Young. However, once these stars had passed into retirement, San Francisco became overshadowed by other solid teams in the NFL, leaving the 49ers with a legacy flickering in the past. San Francisco may not have the same outstanding individual talent as they had before, but they are continuing to build their lineup with skilled players. While fans still sport the San Francisco legends on team jerseys, there are a few up and coming players that are gaining support among the crowd.

  • Present
    • Shaun Hill : The starting quarterback for the 49ers, Shaun Hill has shown plenty of potential after having a slow start to his career with San Francisco. He was traded to the 49ers in 2006 but didn't see playing time until the following year, after which, in 2008, he really began his professional career.
    • Frank Gore : A star running back for San Francisco, Gore has played for the 49ers since he was drafted in 2005 but didn't see much playing time his rookie year. It wasn't until the 2006 season that Gore was able to make a solid impact on the team and jump start San Francisco's floundering offense.
    • Vernon Davis : Davis was drafted onto the 49ers in 2006 as one of the highest paid tight-ends in the NFL at the time. As the "go-to" tight-end for San Francisco, Davis had a breakout rookie season and continued to better his numbers in the following seasons.
  • Past
    • Jerry Rice : Considered as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time and one of the best players in NFL history, Jerry Rice has set the bar extremely high for all wide receivers in professional football. Rice first played for the 49ers in 1985 and ended his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2004, breaking just about every previously set record and being invited to the Pro Bowl a total of 13 times. He went to three Super Bowls with the 49ers.
    • Joe Montana : Another legend in professional football, Joe Montana is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks of all time. He won four Super Bowls for the 49ers and acquired hundreds of awards and recognitions for his prowess, composure, and leadership. Some of those awards include "The Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century" by ESPN in 1999, being named one of the top three greatest football players of all time by The Sporting News, and had held the highest passer rating in the NFL for numerous years. He played for San Francisco from 1979-1992 before playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in '93 and '94.
    • Steve Young : Though not quite as prolific as Joe Montana, Steve Young definitely made a name for himself in NFL history as a skilled, spirited player. When Montana was getting on in his years in the late '80's and early '90's, Young rose to the occasion and displayed his tremendous potential when subbing for a hurt Montana in several games. Once demonstrating his poise and talent, Young was an automatic 'in' as the starting quarterback once Montana left, and gained notoriety with recognition in highest career passer ratings, as well as being inducted into the football hall of fame.
