Retro Decorating
Basic Design Signatures
Wall Decor
The wall decor below can basically go in any room. However, showcase items like posters and signs are best used in bedrooms, hallways, and living rooms.
Bedroom
Make your room cozy and fun. Retro design means you can get a little creative with self-expression. Leopard print sheets maybe? Vintage toys for bookshelves and desks?
Bathroom
The bathroom, like the kitchen, uses tiles. The checkerboard look is one way to go, but you should really try and be a little more creative. You can find infinite amounts of bath accessories with crazy designs and shapes that, while being plenty contemporary, still fall in line with the design of a retro home.
Living Room
What kind of look are you aiming for? A swankified bachelor pad? A nuclear family's dream home? You should decide on that before you start buying living room furniture.
Kitchen and Dining Room
Linoleum tiling is a must, must, MUST (and preferably in some sort of checkerboard pattern), and chrome is another big vintage touch. Also, make sure the colors in the room are sickeningly bright. You may think it's a tad on the silly side but it's actually not. Neon greens, electric blues, and firetruck reds are standard for this style.
