Power Seat Relays

Imagine you're about to get into your car to car door mirrors. You then proceed to move your power seat back, and....nothing. The base won't go back, or forward, and the seat backspellerr isn't moving either. What to do?

Troubleshooting Your Power Seat

There could be a variety of reasons your seat won't move: flashlight, if needed). * Turn on the ignition, but not the engine. Try seat switch again and listen if power seat motor makes any sound. * If it's silent, remove the power seat switch from the side of the seat. * With the help of a test light (used to determine presence of electric voltage), you should check for incoming voltage at the switch. * If there is no voltage, take a look at the wiring between the fuse panel and the switch, there may be a short-circuit. * You'll then need to test the power seat relay between the switch and the motor, if there is one. * Make sure relay is adequately grounded first. * Check to see if relay is getting voltage from the switch. * Then using test light again, check to see if voltage is going from the relay to the motor. * If one of these voltages cannot be detected, examine that wiring for a short-circuit. * If there is a lack of outgoing voltage, then the relay likely needs to be replaced.
