Port Wine

Port wine  is a variety of wine made in Portugal (hence the name). It  tends to be a little sweeter than some other wines and is a great before or after dinner drink. While it tends to be a sweeter red wine it also comes in dry and white varieties. The wine is made from a mixture of five grapes--Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Francesa. In the United States, Port Wine can go through the final stages of manufacturing in any country, but any Port bought in Europe is guaranteed to be straight from the Duoro River region of Portugal.

Popular Ports

Graham's Six Grapes Reserve

This full bodied Port is an excellent dessert wine and goes well with dark chocolate.

Yalumba Antique Reserve Tawny

This Port comes from Australia and is aged an impressive 15 or so years, giving it a hearty aftertaste and a great color!

Dow's Vintage Port

This is an extremely high quality port (which is reflected in the price). The 1994 batch has great reviews and it will continue aging in the bottle.

Ramos Pinto Collector

For a rich ruby port, this is great. It has a similar taste to vintage ports but it hasn't aged for the same length of time--keeping the price reasonable.

Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny

This tawny is a high quality port and can be served chilled for a hot summer day.
