Pet Bird Basics

If you want to make a beautiful bird your feathered friend, you have to make sure your home is outfitted with the proper equipment before you bring any animals home. Read on to learn all of the items you need to acquire beforehand.

Birdcages 

  • This essential is where your pet will spend almost all its time. Make sure it's hospitable.

Food and Water Cups 

  • Hanging on the side of the cage, these often have a perch and storage unit.
  • You need at least one for food and one for water.

Food 

  • Birds should get a diet specific to their breed.
  • Pellets, seeds, and other mixes should dominate.

Toys 

  • Essential to the lives of entertained, happy, interactive birds.
  • Get toys proportional to your birds' sizes and replace them when worn out.

Cuttlebone 

  • A vitamin-rich bone for chewing on.
  • Hang it  on the cage for entertaining exercise.

Perch 

  • When they're not flying, birds are perching. Give them many places to stand.
  • Some perches trim nails some have toys

Treats 

  • Have some sweet foods in big blocks for your birds to cling to, gnaw on, and generally fall in love with.

Litter 

  • Keep this at the bottom of your cage for general cleanliness. Changing the litter is easier than scrubbing a cage down.
