One Hit Wonders

By User:PhillipPortman @timeAndDate(1296061005) You've got to love one hit wonders. From Baby Boomers to Generation Y, every era has had its fair share of them. But how, exactly, are they born? To put it simply, a one hit wonder is basically a singer or a band who has that one massive song that everyone loves. The song is usually complemented with dance moves or tacky costumes in the music video, and everyone has high expectations for the act. Everything seems to be going great for them, then they disappear off the face of the planet. Occasionally the act will release an album and other singles, but nothing will ever top the success of their one hit.  Their memory, however, is secretly hidden away on nineties, and the new millennium, and hopefully trigger some of those music memories.

I Love That Song. Who Sings It?

You will have to forgive me if I forget to mention a one hit wonder that is your personal guilty pleasure. Generally speaking, people of all ages will know a hit and be able to sing every word or mimic the dance moves, but many do not know who sings the song. They are forever known as "the band that sings..." or "you know the girl from that song." As sad as it is, this is all part of the one hit wonder syndrome, which artists hope never happens to them. Other one hit wonders you may be familiar with, but you're unsure of the singer/artist: * "Whip It": Performed by Devo. * "Jump Around": Performed by House Of Pain. * "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)": Performed by The Proclaimers. * "Turn The Beat Around": Performed by Vicki Sue Robinson. * "We're Not Gonna Take It": Performed by Twisted Sister. * "Don't Worry, Be Happy": Performed by Bobby McFerrin. * "Relax": Performed by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. * "Bitch": Performed by Meredith Brooks. * "Unbelieveable": Performed by EMF. * "Play That Funky Music": Performed by Wild Cherry.

One Hit Wonders Of The Eighties

The 1980's were a lot of fun when it came to music, particularly in the way artists expressed themselves through their music videos. It was here where Madonna started her successful career, but it was also where many artists bombed after just one hit. Check out these one hit wonders of the decade.

One Hit Wonders of The Nineties

I think it is fair to say that the nineties are responsible for some of the biggest one hit wonders ever. When the Backstreet Boys weren't at the top of the charts, chances are some other one hit wonder was. Do you remember these?

One Hit Wonders Of The New Millennium

We might only be eleven years into the new millennium, but we have already had some classic one hit wonders.
