Nursing Pads

If you're nursing, sometimes you're breasts are going to leak. It's an automatic response to your baby's cries or a sign that it's time to feed the little one again.  It's impractical to think you'll always be near and able to feed your baby.  For these situations you'll need nursing pads  to wear inside your bra.

Types of Nursing Pads

Washable Nursing Pads

  • Often softer and likely to save money in the long run.
  • Get 100% cotton  (some lace overlay is okay) to be truly absorbant.
  • Frequent washings needed.
  • Stay away from liquid fabric softener.

Disposable Nursing Pads

Lanolin Creams  help ease sore nipples.

  • Make sure they're purified and medical-grade so as not to irritate the you or your baby.
  • Check to see if you have to wash it off before feeding your baby. All natural creams shouldn't be harmful.

Tips

  • Pink pads are more discrete under clothing.
  • SOmetime applying pressure to the breast can stop leakage
  • Some pads are larger (in diameter).
  • Replace pads as soon as they get wet.
  • In a pinch, you can fashion pads out of cloth diapers or handkerchiefs.
  • All women leak differently and leaking patterns change over the course of breastfeeding.
  • Don't be afraid to switch brands if you're dissatisfied.
