The nickname came to South Bend, Indiana, when the school hired their third president, a famous former Irish Brigade chaplain. Notre Dame and football go way back too, maybe not Civil War era, but the Fighting Irish fielded their first football team in 1887. Since then, the football program has become one of the more prestigious athletic teams in history. Now is a better time than ever to support the Fightin' Irishhelp them rebuild and reclaim the old glory days. Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
