A pickup is one permanent magnet connected to finely coiled wire, which relay the sound. The vibrations of sounds made by the strings of the guitar manipulate the electrical current in the magnet. It is this process in which pickups utilize the sound. Here are some of the components of the pickup:
* '''Output: '''Output refers to the magnets. Stronger magnets result in higher voltage, which means higher flux, which ultimately means higher output pickups.
* '''Sound: '''How tightly or loosely the coils are wound, as well as the material of their construction, has influence over the eventual sound output.
* '''Construction: '''Pickups are generally designed with one brand of guitar in mind. They aren't always interchangeable. The spacing of the receptors is another factor to keep in mind.
