Behind every great lead guitarist is an even greater bassist. You know this to be true because you ARE that great bassist. You hold the band up, keep everything together. And now you want some of those snazzy effects that everyone else seems to be using. You feel the bass isn't appreciated! Maybe with some funky distortion people will finally understand and you can stop feeling so lonely when the groupies are all hanging around the singer and you are at the bar sneering and carrying on about how if it weren't for you, they wouldn't even have gotten this gig. Yeah, you tell them!
Common Effects Used
* Bass distortion: also known as "fuzz bass", it first became popular in the 1960's, faded out in the 70's and made a return afterward. It's mostly used now in metal and punk music.
* Wah pedals: Yes, even basses can have that cool "wah wah" sound.
* Synthesizer effects: Want to give your bass that 80s new wave feel? Synthesizer effects will give you an electronic sound.
* Delay effects: delay effects purposely delay the output of the sound. Different effect pedals are made with a different length of delay.a=e/Musical%20Instruments%20Instrument%20Accessories%20Guitar%20bass%20Electric%20Guitar%20Effects
* Chorus effects: These make your single bass sound like it's several playing at once.
* Amp Modelers: Modelers effect the amps output directly, and how the sound is relayed through it.
* Mulptiple Effects: Some pedals and rack mounts have multiple effects in one. They cost more money, but you'll have a lot more options in your hands.
Live Effects vs. Post Production
* Live effects are specifically used during a live show. They often come as pedals.
* The pedals are connected directly into the bass guitar's amp.
* Rack mounted effects usually have multiple effects that can be used, and work for both live and post production. Instead of a pedal, knobs are mounted on a rack and used for effects.
* There is plenty of software that can also be used in post production on the actual recorded music, instead of during the recording process.
