Mulch Mats

Tree ring mulch mats  are great for the recycling and landscaping enthusiast. If you just planted a young sapling, and you want to make sure it will not be competing with weeds and grass for vital nutrients, make sure you buy a mulch mat. Made out of 80% recycled tire rubber, tree rings act like mulch but without the hassle. Tree rings  virtually halt weed growth much better than regular mulch  can, while still allowing nutrients to pass through the mat.  The material can simply be cut to fit your tree with a utility knife.  A mulch mat will allow your tree to grow thick and strong instead of skinny and flimsy.

You can also put mulch mats around mailboxes, lamps and fence posts to prevent weeds from engulfing them.

Mulch Mat Tips

  • Give your mulch mat a quarter turn every month to prevent the toughest weeds from finding a way to grow through.
  • When installing a mulch mat, leave the mat on the area you want it to be for 30 minutes, then remove.  It should leave an indentation of where it was.  Dig out any sod, grass, or loose dirt around the tree.  Flatten the area, then replace the mat at the base of the tree.
