Motorcycle Wheels and Tires
So you've just returned from your cross country
Ducati or some other brand, this guide will help give you some ideas to help with your search.
Wheels
* Before you buy a whole new tire, try fixing or replacing the spokes yourself with a spoke
wheel seal kit.
* If you need to buy a new tire, remember: the standard size for motorcycle
wheels is 17".
* They are often made of
magnesium.
* Choose a style or look you like and one that matches your motorcycle.
* Make sure you check the weight and reliability of the wheel and
rims: weather can (and will) damage and wear them.
Tires
* A big consideration for you would be which is more important: grip or lasting power. Because of the heat the tire absorbs from the asphalt pavement, tires tend to wear-out fast. So how do you know which to choose? Tires are made out of differing compounds that range from soft to hard. Softer compounds have a better grip, while harder compounds guarantee a longer lifespan.
* Keep in mind: some motorcycles can only be fitted with certain
compound tires. Check your model and the tire you're purchasing beforehand to see if they're a proper match.
* Don't try and force on a tire that doesn't fit the rim or wheel.
* Another consideration is what kind of weather you expect to be driving in. A slick with no tread may be great when you're
muddy, you may want to stick with a tire that has a higher tread.
