Mother's Day Gifts from the Family

Mom is so important to you as you raise the children together, and sometimes kids are too young to get Mother's Day presents on their own. Here are some ideas for what to help your kids get their wonderful moms.

Picture Frames
  • Capture family images through the ages by making Mom a picture frame and putting a shot of the family in it.
  • Try decorating it with objects that might be meaningful to her -- dried pasta works well, if you get the many fun colors.
  • You can print off family photos with a photo printer.
  • These can build up into a collection over the years, as well. Pictures of from every year will document how the family has grown and changed.

If Mom is a Collector
  • Maybe you can make her something to add to her collection.
  • Every year there could be a variation on the theme, reflecting the growth of talent as the kids grow up.
  • Does Mom like cats Angels Thimbles Racecars
  • Little kids could draw a picture, eventually graduate to different arts and crafts projects, and take the tradition in a myriad of ways once they get older.
  • This way, Mom can expect a new, creative, and thoughtful addition to her collection and marvel at the ways in which her wonderful children have grown.

Jewelry
  • Young children can practice their coordination by stringing beads on a necklace The natural progression is from plastic to ceramic to glass. Or you can all make your own beads using Fimo clay
  • Children with advanced craft skills can graduate to making earrings  or bracelets
  • Button making  can be fun too. If threading needles isn't your thing, write fun slogans and make Mom her own political campaign.
    • If you combine the button paraphernalia with the jewelry kits, I bet you could even figure out how to make a stylish pin that Mom might wear in public.
  • Many kits also come with the makings for keychains bracelets  and necklaces

Breakfast in Bed
  • The "Happy Mother's Day" wishes the family yells, as you rouse Mom for her breakfast, will melt her heart.
  • The eldest can put the tray  down while younger kids can carry flowers, cards and gifts.
  • "We all cooked for you, Mom!" What a nice way to start the day.

Mom, the Chef
  • Make Mom something for the kitchen so she can look at you while concocting exciting meals.
  • Compile a cookbook of the family's favorite recipes or get some she's been craving from her friends.
  • Make her a utensil holder to store all her special tools.
  • Potholders painted plates and Kitchen magnets  are the hallmarks of a family's kitchen.
  • Cardinal rule -- glitter, glitter glitter.

Mom, the Audiophile
  • A long commute, gym time, or job with headphone privileges could leave Mom hankering for something new on her CD player or MP3 player.
  • Get the whole family together to record an album for her listening pleasure.
  • Use voice recorders  (and maybe a karaoke machine ) to sing your own songs or make her a mix on the computer.
  • Make sure to pick up some blank CDs  and decorate that jewel case  to make the gift extra-special.
