Shims are used to fill in the space between two mated surfaces. They are used to fill in gaps, level a surface, and support the objects it is wedged in between. Shims can be made out of all different materials like shim stock, which is a sheet of whatever material and thickness you want, so that you can cut out whatever shape you need for the job.
