Make Believe and Fantasy Play
Kids, especially toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school children, love to play make believe. Whether they envision themselves as being fairy princesses, cops and robbers, doctors or president, everywhere and everything in the land of make-believe
is fair game for them.
Dress-Up Costumes
Playing make-believe with costumes
is a great childhood pastime that can keep kids occupied for hours. The best thing about it is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to create a treasure chest overflowing with creative possibilities. You have two routes that you can take to build a child's dreamworld. One, you can buy a costume trunk
prepackaged with all the favorites. Or you can build your own.
Building Your Own Costume Trunk
So you want to build a trunk
set on your own. An inexpensive way of doing this is to get a lightweight Rubbermaid box
or some other type of large, clear container with a lid.
Make sure that you get a size that will fit where ever you plan to store it. That usually means somewhere that is low enough for a child to reach without causing harm to him or herself. Once you have the box, the fun part begins.
Fill the box with accessories,
clothes,
and other costume pieces including ones that are from Halloween years past, thrift stores, yard sales, older siblings, and even parent's old clothes. Kids will enjoy all types of clothes, even if someone older finds it totally unwearable.
If you have money to spend and don't mind investing in a new costume trunk, you can shop for items online. You can search solely for accessories to enhance a costume collection or vice versa.
