Low Voltage Halogen Lamps

Low voltage halogen lamps  are used for displays or accents, which is why you frequently come across them in museums, art galleries, retail stores, and the home. The sharp defined beam make these lamps ideal for highlighting anything from sculptures to shoe displays.

Two types of low voltage halogen lamps:

Aluminum Coating
  • Thin film of aluminum
  • Reflects light and infrared radiation ie heat forward
  • Hotter than Dichroic coating
Dichroic Coating
  • Thin multi-layer non-metallic film
  • Allows heat to pass through, while it reflects light forward
  • Coating quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, the lower the quality the faster the coating wears out
Desk Lamps

Pros

  • Smaller and less expensive than buying a high intensity discharge (HID) for the same job.
  • Whiter light
  • Highly controlled light beam

Cons

  • As coating degrad so does light quality
  • Fire hazards
  • If lights don't have glass covers potential of glass shards and UV radiation (if light produces UV rays)
