Inline Skating Buying Guide, Stores, and Prices

Inline Skating

Inline skating came into vogue in the early 90s, and has been widely enjoyed as a recreational activity ever since. Often called "Rollerblading" after the popular brand name, an inline skate  is comprised of a boot with four or five wheels lined in a row--as opposed to roller skates , which feature two rows of two aligned wheels. Though it may take some getting used to to transition from rollerskating to inline skating, once you get the hang of it, you'll find that inlines provide for more streamlined movement and graceful maneuvering.

Inline Skate Brands and Tips

Below are a few popular inline skating brands -- find skates for women ,men ,girls  and boys . Make it a family hobby!

When you're trying out inline skates for purchase, you'll want to be aware of a few critical factors:

  • Fit: Make sure the boot is both comfortable and snug around your foot, and won't wobble when you set off.
  • ABEC rating: An acronym for the Annual Bearing Engineering Council, these four letters followed by a number -- 1, 3, 5 or 7 -- signify each level of bearing precision. Level 1 is the most inexpensive bearing and often leads to a less frictionless, pleasurable ride, while ABEC 7 would be a racer's bearing, and accompany the skates used by serious and professional skaters.
  • When purchasing inline skates for children, it's a good idea to select a pair whose boot can be adjusted to fit your child's foot as he or she grows. This feature is available in a number of inline skating brands.
