Indianapolis Colts Merchandise

Hailing from their home-base in Indiana, the Indianapolis Colts are a long-time favorite team in the NFL. With a killer quarterback--Peyton Manning--and solid coaching staff, the Colts have acquired several NFL championships (in 1958, 1959, and 1968) and Super Bowls (Super Bowl victories in 1970 against the Dallas Cowboys and 2006 against the Chicago Bears). Indianapolis bulked their legacy of success by being the first team in the NFL to win 12 or more league games over five consecutive seasons as well as the first to beat all 31 NFL teams. The Colts also have an interesting history of change, with their previous home in Baltimore from 1953-1983 (the Baltimore Ravens are now the professional football representatives of Maryland). Indianapolis has also secured a new stadium in 2008--the Lucas Oil Stadium--that adds a new incentive to check out this already vivacious professional team. If you're one of the many admirers of the Colts or have thought about switching loyalties to the blue and white, then this guide is for you. Take a look at whats new and glorious in the world of Colts football and gather some ideas of how you can bolster your Indianapolis wardrobe.

Monday Night Mayhem

Monday night football is known to all NFL fans as a night to gather in front of the TV at one's home or local bar to support your team and sport your favorite merchandise (think t-shirts hats  and jerseys ). Whether you're staying in and hanging out with friends or going out to celebrate the evening, check out some of the gear below so you can be the best Colts fan you can be on those manic Monday nights.

For the Home. These items are particularly essential if you're having guests over to share in the excitement of Monday night football.

  • While you're playing host, serve some munchies (popcorn, pretzels, chips and salsa) with an Indianapolis serving set For drinks and coffee, use your authentic Colts glasses  and mugs  to encourage your friends to root for the right team (if they haven't chosen your Colts as their favorites yet).
  • If it's a chilly winter night, serve hot chocolate and bring out your plush blankets  to keep warm and comfortable.
  • Show off your team spirit to all your friends with a Colts backpack Use it for school, at the gym, or for general transportation.
  • Let your inner fan shine through by decorating your bedroom with all the latest gear. Make your bed with blue sheets and comforter and add your matching Colts mascot  to the fray (it's just for decoration--I swear I don't sleep with stuffed animals anymore). Make sure you get to that early Saturday game on time by setting your alarm clock  the night before.

Out on the Town. If you're going out on game night, add some fun elements to your outfit. It's much easier to get in the "rah-rah-rah" mood if you're decked out in blue and white.

  • For the men, a team hat  is an essential item to your Colts wardrobe. The professional teams make it a fun affair for the hat seekers by providing fans with an ocean of choices, so take your time when you're surfing the net for a new cap.
  • If you're heading to your local bar for the night, make sure you layer your outfit by starting with a t-shirt  since it can get a bit stuffy with all the cheering, sweaty fans. Go for a sleeker short-sleeved look with a performance t-shirt  or polo
  • Bundle up against the cold if you plan on walking to the bar: don your sweatshirt  and matching scarf ear muffs  and gloves

The Players

The Colts have a reputation as a solid franchise built around skilled, assertive, and determined football players. If you're at the point of no return in the world of Colts fan-dom, then you're probably ready to obtain a primary symbol of football loyalty: the team jersey. Indianapolis has a crew of talented players, but here's a sampling of some of the more popular shirts you'll see paraded around.

Peyton Manning  is, by far, the most prominent Colts player, and the best quarterback to have ever worn the Indianapolis colors. He is the second person to have been awarded MVP for the NFL three times (see below).

As wide receiver, Reggie Wayne  has played for the Colts since 2001 and has been selected for the Pro Bowl three times.

Joseph Addai  plays as one of Indianapolis's running backs and had a banner year as a rookie in 2006. He is expected to surpass many of the records held by previous Colts running backs.

Dallas Clark  was drafted to the Colts in 2001 and has been a solid addition to the team, playing as both a tight end and wide receiver.

Cold Picks

Indiana is no fair-weather state and its winters are not something to be taken lightly. When football season reaches its peak in the winter months, make sure to pack heavy and with several layers if you are heading out to a game or outdoor event. When the cold wind blows this year, you'll be ready for it!

Hooded sweatshirts  are the pinnacle of warmth and comfort during the winter. These items are best as an outer layer for comfort around the house or neighborhood.

Feel like reliving your high school varsity days? With these heavy leather Super Bowl Champion jackets  you can stay warm yet look cool at the same time.

If you're looking for warmth and comfort yet get annoyed by those irritating hoodies on the back of your neck, crew-neck sweatshirts  are the right pick for you.

Long-sleeved t-shirts  are best for a casual, athletic look while keeping your upper extremities warm. These shirts are great for layering under a sweatshirt or jacket.

With a Colts winter jacket you can wear your team spirit on the outside and show off your pride while staying warm.

The Better Manning

Peyton Manning--the starting quarterback for the Colts--is considered as one of the most talented quarterbacks in NFL history (up there with John Elway, Dan Marino, and Joe Montana). Since his rookie year in 1998, Manning has piled up trophies, awards, and honors to commemorate his record-breaking career for Indianapolis and for the NFL. Some of his career highs include:

  1. Being named the Most Valuable Player in the NFL three times.
  2. Selected for the Pro Bowl nine times.
  3. Super Bowl MVP in 2005.
  4. Holds league records for most touchdowns in consecutive seasons, most passing yards in consecutive seasons, most games with 5 touchdowns or more in his career, and being the only quarterback with consecutive seasons of more than 10 wins (these are just a tiny sampling of the records he holds in the NFL).
  5. Has the highest passing rating among all active NFL quarterbacks.
  6. Has broken almost all quarterback records in the Colts' franchise including passing yards, career wins, and touchdowns.
  7. Was named the best player in the NFL today by The Sporting News in 2009.

Another fascinating fact regarding Peyton is his cultivated sibling rivalry between him and another star NFL quarterback, Eli Manning--current starting quarterback for the New York Giants. Peyton comes from a family of highly talented football players and was second in his family to play in the NFL. His father, Archie Manning, played for the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings while older brother Cooper Manning (perhaps even more talented than Peyton) was diagnosed with a debilitating spinal disease after college and never made it to the NFL. Peyton's hugely prominent professional career demonstrates the natural talent of the Manning family. Even with the many successes that his younger brother--Eli--has experienced, Peyton's skill, composure, and leadership has placed him at the top of his family, the Colts' franchise, and the NFL world.
