Cake stands always seem to amp up the presentation factor whether you're presenting a birthday cake, wedding cake, or a regular 'ole homemade vanilla cake from and you'd like to have a bit more of a showcase for some of your own efforts. You can find a variety of cake plates or stands made from silver, glass, ceramics, or even plastics. There are singing cake plates, cake plates with covers, and flat cake plates that are simply large enough so that you can get the base of your cake onto something. The best is the revolving cake plate that makes your icing job a whole lot easier.
It's All About the Presentation
The covered cake stand can be a lovely fixture in your kitchen on a mantle, table, or countertop and it actually does keep a cake fresher than it would in open air. Saran wrap may need to get involved in the mix if you're going to be keeping the baked goods for longer than a few days though. There are plain covered cake stands available at Pottery Barn and Tablecraft. But there's also the far more decadent crystal cake stand and cover made by Horchow. If presentation is what you're mainly after, there are grand tiered cake stands that would be ideal for serving small finger foods, cakes, and desserts at a larger dinner party. They feel a bit Alice In Wonderlandland.
