The important thing is that coffee is important to you, and there's nothing worse than going without it because of a broken pitcher. Unless you use a percolator, you don't have to waste money replacing the whole machine; simply find a new pot or carafe for your coffee maker, and let the caffination begin anew.
Replacement Materials
First and foremost, it's important to make sure your new coffee pot can actually handle hot coffee. You can't stick any glass pitcher under your drip; even a temporary replacement needs to be heat tempered and shatter proof. Look for a thick glass body and thick, drip-proof plastic for the lid. You want something at least as sturdy as your previous carafe. If you're waiting on a permanent replacement to arrive and you're still jonesing for a cup of coffee, stainless steel pitchers are a good temporary option, though really, you might want to consider staking out a café instead.
Size and Compatibility
Size is another issue; unless you plan to brew coffee a cup at a time, your replacement pot needs to fit your existing machine. It should be big enough to fill the space and catch the dripping coffee without spilling. The lid is especially important: a lid with too small a hole will cause coffee to spill down the sides, getting burning hot liquid on pitcher and even on your counter. Ideally, you want to get your replacement from the same model and manufacturer as your current coffee machine but generic models are available. You should also look for pitchers with measurements on the side, so you can use it to help measure out servings of coffee.
