There are remote control robotic cleaners and automatic pool cleaners that will save your pool filter a lot of stress. A robotic cleaner should not be used alone to clean the pool. You should still be monitoring your pool's chemical levels with pool chemical test kits and you should still have something like a media filter installed, but a robot will definitely cut your personal cleaning time down and extend the life of your pool filter. 

Extra Clean

An automatic pool cleaner can be a bit of a boon to the overall health of your pool because it's cleaning abilities cover what filters and extra pool chemicals can't. Some pool filters release backwash into the water, but this is reduced by your robot friends since it's filters don't operate in the same way. It's argued you'll save electricity, as well, since your filters won't have to work as hard.
