Home Improvement Pools and Spas Pool Rakes and Skimmers
Yes, every pool needs its pool boy. Or at least someone willing to rake the leaves off the surface with a pool skimmer. Pool rakes are one of those pool accessories that allow you to do some cleaning in the short term to take care of your pool or hot tub in the long run. In fact, simply by taking the leaf rake to the surface of the pool when there's floating debris in the water, you're saving your media filter a lot of labor. It's much more costly to replace your pool filter than to have someone complain they got stuck skimming the pool again. Just a hint: invest in a pool cover as well to help keep your pool as clean as can be.
Pool Water Chemicals
In addition to cleaning the pool from any leaf clumps or debris, you'll want to be making sure that you're testing the water levels with a water testing kit and that you're adding pool chemicals regularly enough to keep the water looking clear. You'll be testing the water's pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness. At many recreational pools, this testing occurs at least once a day.
