The funny thing about turntables is that if you're looking for them you're probably in one of two demographics: either you're a DJ, going hard on the hip-hop/electronica scene; or you're a distinguished older person with a fine taste for vintage records. Now, if you thought those two groups had nothing in common, you've been proven wrong.
A turntable is a device used for playing gramophone records, which is a very Thomas Edison way of saying it scratches out vinyl discs. Shopping for turntables is not very difficult, and, truth is, there isn't much variety. DJ quality turntables can be quite expensive at the upper end, but many beginner packages are also available for those just trying to cut their teeth. For vinyl record enthusiasts, great home systems at excellent prices are available with amazing improvements in audio quality over the equipment of the last century.
When connecting a turntable to your home theater system you may, depending on the sound quality of your records and equipment, consider adding a
speakers to play all the sound back.

Well, DJ turntables can be quite complicated, with a lot of different features. This is one of those genres of art that you'll want to do a lot of technical reading about before jumping into. There's a lot to know about disc turning speeds, playback mode switching, and, frankly, more than a guy like me can really learn about in one afternoon. My major involvement with DJing was being the weird looking kid losing his mind somewhere on the dance floor. So it goes.
