Because of the potential for comprehensiveness, the low cost model, and focus on user experience, it’s exciting to think of the possiblities. Expect the company to continue to launch new features to create a more engaging shopping experience. Taken as a whole, this is one way (note, it’s not the only way) to build a loyal audience and not rely on the PPC engines. The more established players should pay attention. Women are going to love this.

ShopWiki hopes to set itself apart through popular online community features such as user-generated content and video. For example, when a shopper types in a search for a TMX Elmo doll, the site will deliver a list of prices and online retailers accompanied by reviews and a buying guide, which users can update anytime, in wiki fashion. ShopWiki hopes to do what many established shopping comparison engines have failed to do: become a destination site rather than a link from a general search engine. IM Shopping
Design Tastes Good
I added the ShopWiki contact to my AOL IM client and I think it is pretty cool. All you have to do is type in a product you are interested in and it gives you instant feedback. Cool stuff. I also think their color search is a great way for people to shop, and the price slider is also a great feature. So, three good ways to empower participation: 1. Allow people to shop in alternative ways (IM); 2. Allow people to shop by color; 3. Allow people to shop by price.

ShopWiki says it is breaking the rules by eschewing feeds from retailers, opting instead to use Web crawling and other extraction techniques to index data from 120,000 online shops, according to VentureWire. ShopWiki recibe 6,2 millones de dólares
OJObuscador (Spain)

I missed the audio-visual side of this when the announcement came about ShopWiki’s first round of funding ($6.2 million). Pity because it holds a lot of lessons for content producers and companies looking to improve knowledge collection and sharing...[S]urely in time a good deal of what we need to find out is going to be done this way - not that we’ll get six million dollars to build shopping comparison sites but that content whether it’s related to purchasing or to corporate knowledge collection will have to harness user content [and] also drive innovation in that process.

Shopping Wiki

LAUNCH - APRIL 19, 2006

Former DoubleClick Execs Launch Shopwiki, Shopping Search Engine
Search Engine Watch
Another shopping comparison engine!?! More than a decade after the industry was born, there's still a lot of room for improvement. ShopWiki takes a different approach than the current breed of comparison engines to address some issues... It's a long term threat to the established players who are not thinking seriously about crawling.

ShopWiki Tries to Push into Shopping Search Space
SiliconBeat
How is ShopWiki different? Kevin Ryan, ShopWiki's CEO, tells us that, instead of relying on products feeds to populate its site, as some shopping sites do, ShopWiki crawls 300,000 sites. So ShopWiki comprehensiveness is one selling point. The other is the abiity of users to write buying guides that anyone can edit or add to.

ECommerce-Guide
ECommerce Guide tested ShopWiki and found some of its features to be quite innovative. The one tool that stood out is the sliding price range finder.

Two former senior executives of Internet advertising firm DoubleClick launched a new online shopping search engine Wednesday. “We are like the Wikipedia for shopping," said former DoubleClick Chief Executive Kevin Ryan.

DoubleClick Vets Launch Comparison Shopping Engine
MediaPost's Online Media Daily
ShopWiki, which includes listings from 120,000 retailers, eschews one of the standard comparison-shopping engine revenue streams--paid inclusion--and simply crawls the Web for product listings. The search function allows users to refine their search based on the product they're looking for; a search for "diamond rings" could be performed as a "diamond rings 2-4ct," and it would only return the rings with stones of that size. Likewise, searches can be refined by a price range.

ShopWiki Shopping Search Take Novel Approach
Marketing Vox News
"When comparison shopping sites were built five years ago, they were built from the merchant's perspective. We're building ShopWiki from the consumer's point of view," said Kevin Ryan, ShopWiki's founder and CEO.
