Troubleshooting Guide

Below are some solutions to problems that you may experience when using the wiki system.

Wiki Authoring:

The ShopWiki Rich Text Editor was designed to take advantage of the latest technologies included in your browser. If you are not using the latest release of your browser, this may be the reason for any number of problems. Please check to make sure you have the latest update before attempting to troubleshoot.
ProblemSolution
When I click on a "Properties" menu item (like Image or Link properties), the properties dialog doesn't display. Most browsers today come with pop-up blockers enabled. Since the Property dialog is really a pop-up window it will get blocked by your browser unless you have specifically allowed pop-ups for our site. A simple one-time fix is to hold down the control key when clicking. This will allow the pop-up for that click. To permanently allow pop-ups for the site, consult the online help for your Web browser.
A message about being unable to connect to server came up when I tried to save an article. Before submitting (saving) and article, the Wiki editor will first check to make sure that it can contact the ShopWiki server to ensure the save will complete successfully. While ShopWiki maintains highly reliable servers, it is possible that there are other network connectivity problems between your browser and our servers. Simply wait and retry saving the article in a few minutes.
An error message is displayed when the article is displayed.Although wiki markup is more flexible than HTML, it still has some rules as to the format of the wiki markup and associated text. If there are errors in the markup (like a line break within a link), the editor will display the error above the editor. You can then correct the mistake in the editor below and then re-save the article.

ProblemSolution
When I try and access my user account, it says that the page requires special permissions.Make sure that you are logged into the system. If logged in, your username will appear in the top right corner of the screen.
I clicked on a link in an article, but it takes me to a page that says I don't have permission to access. This is most likely an authoring mistake. A user may have linked a special page (like a user account page) from a globally viewable article.
