Oh sticky season, it never ends. Whether it's winter, spring, summer, or fall, it seems like our pits never stop working their magic. So deodorant it is, and boy oh boy is there a selection. You can choose deodorant that makes you smell like flowers, or spring rain. Or you can go the nonconscious in that they don't contain aluminum or zinc, which have some correlations with some unpleasant health side effects.
Make Your Own
There's a way to smell nice without worrying about all the chemicals in some deodorant brands. You can make your own deodorant with baking soda, corn starch, tea tree and lavender essential oil, Shea butter, cocoa butter, vitamin E tablets, and a small jar. Basically, you combine the butters, corn starch and baking soda, about a tablespoon of each, and heat them in the microwave inside the glass jar. Then once they've been melted down, add the vitamin E and some drops of the essential oil. It's up to you how creamy and smelly you want your homemade deodorant to be. You'll realize, based on the list of the ingredients, that deodorant is meant to treat bacteria (the tea tree oil) and moisturize the area (the butter), while also adding some perfume to cover up natural odors (baking soda and lavender).
