Infant and Children's Toothbrushes

Introducing oral hygiene to your child at a very early age will help keep his/her mouth healthy and prepare a healthy foundation for adult teeth.  An important part of your child's oral hygiene routine is clearly a toothbrush, and that can be either a soft brush that you use on your infant or a colorful easyhold brush that your toddler uses on his/her own.  When shopping, look for toothbrushes with small heads and soft bristles that are gentle for your child's mouth and gums. You can brush your child's teeth with just water until your child is old enough to spit out toothpaste, or use special toothpaste designed just for infants. Be sure to check with your doctor or pediatric dentist pediatrician for additional guidance in caring for your child's teeth.

Toothbrushes for Your Child

Fingertip brushes are soft, flexible brushes that you put on your finger and gently brush your baby's first teeth and gums. These brushes usually feature very soft bristles and the fingertip design makes it much easier to  reach the back of your child's mouth without poking them. These brushes are a perfect choice for your child's very first toothbrush. Some parents prefer a tooth-wipe over the brush, and these give you the same amount of finger control and are usually disposable. Handled brushes designed for you to use on your child's teeth have the same soft bristles, and a miniature (often ergonomically designed) handle for a thorough brushing as your baby gets older.

Little Brushes for Little Hands

Toothbrushes designed for baby's first forays into brushing his/her own teeth should feature easy to grip handles and super-soft bristles. Some toothbrushes play music so that your child brushes longer, and some are powered with spinning or vibrating heads so that you can ease your child into big kid brushing. Have a favorite brand of adult toothbrush? You should be able to find a colorful child sized version so that you and your child can brush together (your little one should ''always'' be supervised when brushing their teeth).  Kits that include a rinse cup and other kid sized dental hygiene accessories are available and very popular. Toothbrushes featuring sport team logos as well as colorful cartoon characters add familiarity and kid appeal to make learning this important motor skill fun.
