Hair Dryers

Contents[Hide]

Hair dryers  are popular home appliances for both men and women will all hair types. They can be used just for drying hair or for styling. Probably the two most important considerations you'll make when choosing which hair dryer to buy is the cost and the strength. More often than not, these two things go hand in hand -- the more powerful the hair dryer, the more expensive it will be and vice versa.

Choosing a Hair Dryer

  1. Consider your styling habits. Do you dry your hair everyday? If so, look for a quality hair dryer and don't skimp just because you see a cheaper model. You'll need something strong and durable that can hold up to abuse. For those that use a hair dryer less frequently, don't break the bank on a hair dryer, but choose something in a moderate price range. You can be assured that you'll be buying a quality product that will last a long time.
  2. Can it travel? If you need a hair dryer on a daily basis but travel frequently, a folding hair dryer might be tempting choice. It should be noted though that folding travel hair dryers are less powerful, meaning they'll take much longer to dry the hair. Only if you have short hair should you opt for a very small hair dryer since unlike larger models (made to produce up to 1875 watts), they don't come with multiple attachments like a diffuser  or offer varying settings.

Hair Dryer Features

  • Ionic Hair Dryers
    • It has been proven that heat does damage to the hair follicle. In response to this fact, hair dryer manufacturers have created an ionic hair dryer This high-tech hair dryer is meant to promote healthy hair by using ions (either positive or negative, depending on the brand) to break down water molecules so that they can be more readily absorbed by the hair shaft. Then, the hair becomes more hydrated, looking shinier and becoming more manageable.
    • Although there is little scientific evidence to back up these claims, according to ConsumerSearch.com, many reviewers preferred ionic hair dryers to ordinary ones.
  • Settings
    • Models with varying temperature/speed settings are the most versatile.
    • You can use hot, warm or cool air (the least damaging) to dry hair.
    • Speed can be changed to better suit the style you are trying to acheive.
    • A cool-shot button is great because it reduces hair damage and can improve shine.
  • Convenience
    • Choose the lightest hair dryer available in the style you need. You will appreciate something lightweightafter blow drying your hair for 15 minutes.
    • Removable grills make cleaning the hair dryer easier.
    • For many styles, a long "nose" on the hair dryer will give you better results and more focused warm air.
    • Special attachments, such as a diffuser  can be useful, but don't pay extra for accessories you'll never use. Check if you can use an old diffuser from your current hair dryer on a new model if you want to save money.
    • A long cord is quintessential to an easy blow drying experience.
