The last time your house got raided by a swarm of dæmons you thought, "Oh. It's just part of the territory. I'll get a professional to rebuild my garage and deck." However, this being the second time this happened you're thinking something more along the lines of, "Oh for pete's sake! Why did I have to befriend the weird kids at school?!" and you're realizing that if you want to fix things up on the home front you're going to need to rebuild things yourself. You got all your metalworking and woodworking tools on hand but you're not sure what accessories and parts you need. This is especially true when you get to your grinder because you want the finishing touches of this project to look nice.
Grinder Wheels and Wheel Guards
Aside from the obvious, grinder wheels mount to the power tools so the abrasives can be attached and used. The wheel guards are used for protection. They block the excess materials from spilling out the edges and the disc from scraping outside the target area. Different wheel guards must be used for different wheels. Make sure you check whether your wheel is threaded or non-threaded. If you find that the pieces don't fit, you should consider buying a flange.
Flange
Flanges are used to make sure the hub wheels and guards connect properly to the power tool base. Grinder flanges connect between the wheel guard and grinding wheel. You don't want any pieces to go flying off. That would be pretty scary. Thankfully your BFF could stop the rogue sanding discs with her bare hands, otherwise you'd be in serious trouble. But since she's busy fighting off the Ultimate Evil and can't always be there to help with your woodworking home projects, you should think about what flange you need. You can tell what you'll need based on the grinder model and wheel you're using.
Discs
There are several types of cutting discs. These are cutoff discs are more appropriate for metals, whereas sanding discs are for woodworking. Abrasives can be used on a variety of materials and come in different grain degrees. Use of a sanding disc should be followed by a polishing disc for a smoother, more clean look. Wire brushes are used for finishing metal, much like the sanding discs work on wood.
