Your cake flavor options are nearly endless with a layer cake. You can make a traditional chocolate or yellow layer cake. You simply take the one of the baked cake rounds and completely cover the top and sides in icing. Then pile on the next cake round and apply the icing over that layer in the same way. A tasty hint: add a sprinkling of shredded coconut and toasted almonds in the layers to give your cake a special flare. And if you want to get creative with the cake and icing pairings, perhaps try an earl gray cake batter with a lemon infused vanilla icing (so yummy!). Or you could make a hazelnut-flavored cake and use a toffee icing with actual hazelnut and toffee bits in your layers and on top of the cake.
